Police opened fire and shot at the leg of rowdy-sheeter Saifullah Khan aka Saifu when the latter tried to attack Jayanagar police staff Nagaraj in forest area at Doddadanavandi village near Ayanaur in Shivamogga taluk.
According to Superintendent of Police G K Mithun Kumar, Saifullah Khan, was absconding in a case registered against him under IPC section 307 (Attempt to murder).
Acting on tip-off, sub inspector Naveen rushed to the spot with his colleagues and asked him to surrender. But the accused attempted to attack the police constable Nagaraj with a knife.
In retaliation, police sub inspector Naveen shot at the leg of Saifullah and nabbed him. He is facing 18 criminal cases and a member of the gang led by rowdy-sheeter Market Fouzan, who is in jail under the Goonda Act. Kumsi police has registered a case.

The CBI has chargesheeted Bihar Dy. CM Tejashwi Yadav in the land-for-jobs case. The chargesheet also mentions the names of former chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabi Devi, Tejashwi's parents.
