Kanimozhi, daughter of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, will be produced before the Special Court hearing the 2G spectrum allocation scam case on a day-to-day basis.

Kanimozhi, 43, was brought to the courtroom on Saturday morning in a van meant for women undertrials. Former telecom minister A Raja and other accused came in a different vehicle.

Kanimozhi’s mother Rajathi broke down when her daughter appeared in the court. The MP looked a bit fatigued, but remained calm and composed throughout the proceedings. She sat between her mother on her left and husband Aravinthan on her right. Her minor son Adityathan sat next to his father.

Kanimozhi affectionately bade farewell to her son at the end of the court proceedings.
She spent Friday night in a cell at Jail number six, which is fitted only with coolers and fans to beat the summer. Her cell has a television set which is a luxury for jail inmates.

According to sources, her breakfast was bread and tea in the jail canteen. She is allowed home-cooked food.

MK defends daughter

Defending his daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi, former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi on Saturday said that he asked Kanimozhi to be part of Kalaignar TV and it was not her choice. He also said that sending her and Sharath Kumar to jail was against the law.

He called Kanimozhi’s jail sentence a vendetta against the DMK and that the party would surely win this war.

“This is a vendetta against DMK from Kanyakumari to the Himalayas. DMK will surely win this war,” said Karunanidhi.
