Sunita, married to a Delhi-based truck driver Ramesh, often marches to her parents’ home in Baraut town in Baghpat district after squabbles with Ramesh over his “unhygienic ways.”
“My husband does not regularly brush his teeth nor does he tuck his shirt inside the trousers while going out...he does not even know how to dress decently,” Sunita told the police on Monday. She was called there along with Ramesh to sort out their differences after her case was referred to the Women’s Cell of the Kotwali police station, whose help she had sought.
It is just some months since Sunita and Ramesh got married, and she claims she did not know of his unhygienic ways before marriage. Every time Sunita turns up at her parents’ home after fights with Ramesh, they ask her to go back and patch up with Ramesh.
But “about a month ago, she told her parents that she wanted to divorce Ramesh as she did not want to live with him any more,” police said.
When the matter was brought to the notice of the Women’s Cell of the police station, the couple were asked to talk in private and reconcile their differences.
But the effort failed after she flared up at Ramesh during the “peace talk” and said, “I cannot live with such a person and want divorce.”
Ramesh, appearing hapless, was seen trying to convince Sunita that he could not be regular with his daily chores given the nature of his profession. “Also I cannot tuck in my shirt and drive the truck,” he tried explaining.
