Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer Peekay landed in a controversy after a group of people registered a case against the film’s production company for hurting religious sentiments.

Three junior actors have been arrested.

Trouble began when a scene of the film, being produced by Rajkumar Hirani and slated for a Christmas release, was being shot in Delhi's walled city on Thursday.
Bystanders in Chandni Chowk got furious when they noticed a man attired as Lord Shiva rode a rickshaw in which two burqa-clad women were sitting.
Unaware that a film was being shot, the locals initially assumed that the three were members of a Ramlila committee in a rehearsal.

But they became curious when they saw big cameras.

The crowd questioned the actors and found that they were part of Hirani’s political satire Peekay, in which Aamir Khan is the leading actor. The crowd turned angry.
Two police officers reached the spot. The artistes were taken to Kotwali police station to prevent the situation on the street from getting worse.

The actors and production team produced the documents, clarifying that they had permission to shoot.

Several people followed the actors to the police station, raising slogans.
A few minutes later, they also gave a written complaint to the police, saying their religion had been lampooned.

The crowd waited outside the police station till they had ensured that a case has been registered.

On the basis of the complaint, police lodged an FIR against the director and artistes.
Three small-time actors were also arrested.

“We have registered an FIR under section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) of Indian Penal Code against the artistes,” said a senior police officer.
