The CBI wants sacked Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, an accused in the DSP Zia-ul-Haq murder case, to undergo a lie detector test.
The agency has approached the special CBI court here seeking permission for a
polygraph test on Raja Bhaiya, who has been accused by the slain DSP’s wife Parveen Azad of conspiring to kill the cop.
According to sources, the investigating agency has so far failed to unearth any credible evidence against Raja Bhaiya, but it did not want to take any chance.
The sources said there were several questions and the agency feels that a polygraph test could yield something positive.
Recently, the CBI had quizzed the former minister for over 20 hours on two consecutive days. The agency did not seek his custody as it did not have the evidence, the sources said.
Haq was allegedly killed by a mob at Walipur village in Kunda, Raja Bhaiya’s Assembly constituency in Pratapgarh district, in March. Haq was in Walipur after receiving information about the killing of Nanhen Yadav, the village head.
Meanwhile, the agency had filed a charge sheet naming five people for Yadav’s murder, but Raja Bhaiya’s name was not mentioned.
Parveen, however, accused the former minister of being involved in the conspiracy that led to her husband’s killing.
Raja Bhaiya had claimed that he was in the state capital at the time of the murder, and had even met the chief minister and informed him about the violence at Walipur.
