In what could come as a big respite to farmers, the Centre has decided to give compensation to those who suffer loss of crops due to frost from this year onwards.

The government has included the frost in the list of natural calamities for the purpose of compensating farmers in the event of loss caused by it. The decision has been taken by the Centre following requests from various state governments including Madhya Pradesh.

“Government of India has accepted the suggestion to include frost in the list of natural calamity. From this year, the government will also give compensation to those farmers who suffer loss of crops due to frost,” Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar said while replying to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
