The incident took place on Friday evening in Karhi Kachhar village under Belghana police post, the official said.

"Dinesh Patel (35) entered the well, which is located in their vegetable garden, to retrieve a chicken that had fallen inside. He soon fainted. His brother Dilip Patel (30) entered to check and fainted as well.

When they did not come out for some time, neighbours and police were alerted," he said. "The bodies of the siblings were retrieved using safety equipment late Friday night.

Prima facie, it seems they died after inhaling some poisonous gas inside the well. However, the exact cause would be known from the post mortem report," the official said.
