The mystery behind the body of 18-month-old Gudapati Mokshanath found floating in the shallow waters of the Krishna River near Kanakadurgamma Bridge between Vijayawada and Guntur of Andhra Pradesh has deepened.

On Saturday, the child’s mother lodged a complaint suspecting her husband, who considered the baby to be inauspicious, and in-laws to be behind the crime.

Mokshanath went missing from his grandfather’s house at Mahendra Colony, in Tenali on Wednesday. His uncle, G Hariharan alias Harish, too has been missing since then. The body of the boy was found on Thursday.

The police have registered a case in Mangalagiri rural police station.

The complaint was made by the boy’s grandparents who were taking care of him, as little Mokshanath’s father G Bhaskar Rao and mother G Vimala Priya are software engineers working in Hyderabad.

The toddler’s mother, however, complained to Guntur Rural Superintendent of Police Ramakrishna on Saturday that she suspected her husband and in-laws.

“My husband believed that he would die soon as our son was born in a very inauspicious time. He even called me to inform that when I was in hospital minutes after my son’s birth. We have had fights on this issue several times and I was worried about the safety of my child,” a distraught Vimala Priya told reporters.
