A civilian was killed and five others, including three policemen, were injured when unidentified militants hurled a grenade at a police station in old city Srinagar on Sunday evening.

A police official said the grenade was hurled at Khanyar police station, which missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside at around 8.15 pm. Six people, including three policemen, were injured due to the blast. The injured were rushed to hospital where one civilian died, he said

Reports said, that the militants fired few shots in air also and managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness. Immediately after the attack, security forces launched a manhunt to nab the militants, reports added.

The Valley is on the edge since the killing of nine civilians in security forces firing on April 9 when Srinagar parliament constituency went to by-poll. Militants have intensified attacks on security forces and political activists in the last few weeks.
