A 13-year old boy of class VII of a government school in Chandigarh attempted to rape a class 1 student of the same school in the washroom, school authorities said.

The principal of the government school where the incident took place got the medical examination of the girl at the civil hospital after the victim’s parents brought the matter to the notice of the school authorities. According to the school principal, the girl studies in the evening school and had reached the school early that day since her parents had to go for work early.

A class VII student of the school followed her in the washroom where he attempted to rape her. The minor girl sustained injuries. The district education office was informed about the incident that took place on October 15 but came to light now after the parents decided to inform the school principal.

However, ironically, despite the school advising parents to register a police complaint in the case, the parents are so far reluctant to pursue the matter any further. Under the POCSO act, the police and the education authorities should inform the police about any such incident with 24-hours after coming to light.
