New Delhi: In a massive coordinated counter attack against Congress, several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Tuesday accused the grand old party of orchestrating drama and shedding crocodile tears on Ambedkar.
BJP ruled state Chief Ministers including Yogi Adityanath, Devendra Fadnavis, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Bhajanlal Sharma, Bhupendra Patel and Mohan Charan Majhi addressed separate press conferences in their respective state headquarters and attacked Congress.
As the Congress has been mounting pressure on the saffron party to apologize over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remark on Ambedkar, the Chief Ministers slammed the Congress for 'wasting' the Winter Session of Parliament.
The saffron party also demanded Congress's apology for twisting Amit Shah's remark and sharing an 'edited' clip of the same.
The BJP counter attack against the Congress came at a time when the Opposition Party was intensifying its protest against the Home Minister and demanded his public apology.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, in a piercing attack at the Congress party, claimed that India's first Prime Minister was against Ambedkar's inclusion in the Drafting Committee of the Constitution.
"Even Pt Nehru campaigned against Ambedkar to ensure his defeat. The Congress consistently worked to keep him out of Parliament and to silence the voice of Dalits and marginalised communities," the UP chief minister claimed.
"Congress should apologise for tweeting an incomplete video of Amit Shah (where he mentioned Ambedkar) and wasting the time of Parliament and now wasting the people's time," Devendra Fadnavis said in Mumbai.
Bhupendra Patel accused the Congress of being "anti-Ambedkar", and claimed that it always insulted the father of the Indian Constitution, made fun of him and tried to belittle him.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma told reporters that it was a matter of shame for the Congress that the party presented the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Babasaheb Ambedkar in a distorted manner.
