With the 38-year-old Congress MP paying obeisance to his late father at the family estate at Idupulapaya near Kadapa in AP, the party top brass in New Delhi has started contemplating tough actions against him for defying the high command’s diktat not to resume the controversial Yatra.
Sources in the Congress said the high command might even consider suspending or expelling Jagan. However, a section of the party’s senior leaders were in favour of treading cautiously, particularly ahead of the birth anniversary of his father next Thursday, keeping in view the ensuing bypolls in several constituencies in the State.
“All true, committed and loyal Congressmen must necessarily observe the party ‘dharma’ and act within the ‘laxman rekha’ of propriety and party discipline,” said the Congress spokesman and Rajya Sabha member Abhishek Singhvi.
“Failure to do so will perforce lead to a chain of consequences, which are best avoidable. We hope and trust that compliance will take the place of defiance,” he said.
