A war of words broke out between the Modi government and the opposition Congress in Parliament over the National Herald case on Wednesday.
The Congress, which enjoys the numbers in the Rajya Sabha, forced adjournment of proceedings in the Upper House, and launched vociferous protests in the Lok Sabha where it is far outnumbered by the ruling BJP.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu hit back at the Congress, accusing it of pressurising the judiciary using the forum of Parliament, a charge rejected by Rahul Gandhi.
In Parliament, besides the Trinamool and the JD(U), not many were seen supporting the Congress. Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, accused the government of bulldozing the opposition and sought the protection of the chair. Kharge said the Central government did not act against chief ministers of the BJP-ruled states over allegations of corruption but were targeting the Himachal Pradesh chief minister by trapping him in a disproportionate assets case.
