New Delhi: Claiming the Congress-led Opposition is claiming a “moral victory” over what it termed as a “non-issue”, the BJP said that the Opposition had to face disappointment over the Supreme Court verdict in the Special Intensive Revision exercise of the Election Commission.
BJP president J P Nadda said that the Congress tried several ways but failed. “Congress tried every trick and deceit to stop SIR but they had to face disappointment in the Supreme Court today. Now, in sheer desperation, Congress is clutching at non-issues and parading them as 'moral victories'. The fact remains that all their canards are being rejected, exposed,” Nadda said.
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya questioned why has neither Congress or RJD filed a case with Bihar EC. “Having failed to secure their desired outcome, the usual suspects are in overdrive, claiming ‘moral victory.’ Strange — given that not a single RJD–Congress BLA has filed a complaint so far. All parties already had the list of 65 lakh deleted names. And as for Aadhaar — the Court has only asked for it to establish identity, not citizenship,” Malviya said.
He also questioned the voter IDs of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and said that she was given her EPIC card even before she became a citizen of India. “Her name first appeared on the rolls in 1980 — three years before she became an Indian citizen and while she still held Italian citizenship … In 1980, the electoral rolls of the New Delhi parliamentary constituency were revised … Sonia Gandhi’s name was added, appearing at serial number 388 in polling station 145,” Malviya alleged.
“This entry was a clear violation of the law, which requires a person to be an Indian citizen to be registered as a voter. Following an outcry in 1982, her name was deleted from the list — only to reappear in 1983,” he added.
Union culture minister Gajendra Sekhawat said that Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was questioning the integrity of Constitutional bodies.
“Congress had used immoral methods and unethical practices on several occasions ... During the 1952 Lok Sabha elections, Congress prevented Dr BR Ambedkar from winning his seat by declaring over 74,000 votes invalid,” he said.
