A total of 287 persons, including Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, cast their vote in the Congress president election at Kerala PCC headquarters Indira Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday.
Senior leader A K Antony and AICC general secretary K C Venugopal were among the others who cast their votes in Kerala.
Among the 307 voters from Kerala, 13 could not cast their votes due to various reasons. Rape case accused MLA Eldose P Kunnapillil, who is absconding, also did not turn up for voting.
Tharoor reached Indira Bhavan by around 10.50 am. He was greeted mainly by some young leaders who had openly backed him.
Earlier during the day, Tharoor told reporters that even Priyanka Gandhi told him that this election happening over 22 years was doing good for the party. He also said that this day belonged to the party workers as they were electing the party president through a democratic process and deciding the party's future.
Many senior leaders from the state including Kerala PCC president K Sudhakaran had overtly and covertly expressed their backing for Mallikarjun Kharge.
