New Delhi: The Congress will soon reach out to I.N.D.I.A. bloc partners to finalise issues to be taken up on priority during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament as the main opposition party zeroed in on around ten major issues, including Operation Sindoor, Bihar electoral rolls revision, Manipur and foreign policy matters.
This was decided at a meeting of Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group chaired by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and attended by party chief Mallikarjun Kharge and other senior leaders.
Earlier in the day, Kharge, who is also the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, met Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar with whom he had a "fruitful conversation".
After the meeting, Kharge posted on 'X', "the Opposition wants a productive Rajya Sabha session from July 21. For that to happen a number of strategic, political, foreign policy and socio-economic issues that are of great public concern need to be debated and discussed."
At the meeting, sources said the party decided to forcefully raise the issue of the contentious Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls just months ahead of Bihar elections, among other issues.
Congress and other parties are also expected to raise their complaints about Maharashtra and Haryana elections.
Another issue the Congress would be raising would be Pahalgam terror attack, subsequent Operation Sindoor and claims by US President Donald Trump that he brokered a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan. The Opposition is expected to demand a reply by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Congress has also identified foreign policy as one area where it would target the Modi government with sources saying that it would definitely raise India-China border issue while claiming that Modi has given a huge leeway to Beijing.
The June 12 Air India crash, statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and rising crime against women are also among top priority for the Congress during the session. Sources said the party's floor managers would reach out to I.N.D.I.A. bloc parties to have a common and coherent strategy.
The Monsoon Session will end only on August 21, a week longer than usual, during which the government is expected to bring a resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur by another six months.
