“For the whole world, cooperation may be a system, but for India, cooperation is the philosophy of our traditional life. Coming together, thinking, working together towards a single goal, being together in happiness and sorrow is the soul of India's philosophy of life,” Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said.

“Cooperatives are deeply ingrained in the soil and roots of India and, since ancient times, there has been a sense that exists for cooperation for the welfare of the world,” Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

Shah and Chouhan were in Mumbai on Friday where they addressed functions on cooperatives and agriculture.

Chouhan stated that the roadmap prepared for the prosperity of farmers and development of the agriculture sector includes increasing production per hectare, reducing cost of production, fair price for produce, proper compensation in case of crop loss, diversification of agriculture, and protecting the earth and soil for future generations with limited use of fertilisers.

“Whether it is the purchase of foodgrains from farmers across the country at MSP or providing 5 kg of foodgrains free of cost to every poor person under the Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, NCCF and NAFED have an important role in all these,” said Shah.
