As Panchkula burned on Friday, over a dozen cops on duty were allegedly drinking alcohol in the posh Gymkhana Club in Sector 3. The club was shut for the day in wake of the verdict.

The police, a source said, entered the club after seeing several Dera followers trespassing. Three club employees told DH that the police broke open the doors to enter the main complex where the bar and restaurant are located.

They allege that cops took out beer bottles from the freezer and sat for about half-an-hour before moving out to “manage” the law and order situation outside.

Club manager Om Prakash said one employee has suffered fractures and has been admitted to a hospital. Senior officials, who are honorary members of the club, have been informed about the incident.
