In what could trigger tightening of norms and return of work-from-home, the financial capital of Mumbai on Thursday registered a mammoth 24-hour tally of over 8,000 fresh Covid-19 cases.

During the last 24 hours, 8,646 cases and 18 deaths were reported taking the progressive total to 41,29,931 and 46,758, respectively.

The doubling rate in Mumbai is now 49 days.

The overall growth rate of Covid-19 cases between 25-31 March is 1.38 per cent, according to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Maharashtra witnessed 43,183 new cases and 249 deaths. A total of 32,641 patients recovered from the deadly virus.
