Emboldened by the encouraging results of lockdown which has helped check the spread of coronavirus, the Nitish Kumar regime in Bihar extended the lockdown in the state, enforced on May 5, till June 1.
Sharing this information, Nitish tweeted in Hindi: “The lockdown has yielded the desired result. Therefore, the lockdown, which was in force till May 25, has been extended for another week, i.e, till June 1, 2021.”
Nitish also thanked the people of the state for their cooperation during the lockdown. “People are following the guidelines in a disciplined manner. This is precisely why we have been able to check the spread of Covid-19,” said Nitish.
In the meantime, the Bihar Government has asked its ministers not to visit hospitals or tour their constituencies. “Their (ministers’) movement gives a wrong message to the common people that while others are following lockdown guidelines, the ministers are roaming around freely,” said a senior official, adding that a letter has been dispatched to all the ministers with the fresh directive.
Meanwhile, Bihar recorded 107 deaths, including that of an SDM (sub-divisional magistrate) Sanjay Kumar Singh, in the last 24 hours, thereby taking the death toll in the state to 4,549.
