New Delhi: The CPI(ML)L on Saturday shot off a letter to the Election Commission (EC) raising “concerns arising from the ground” faced by voters during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, claiming that there is no uniformity in carrying out the exercise.
In a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, party leader N Sai Balaji said the reports were coming from various districts, including Bhojpur and Gopalganj where people are being told to submit enumeration forms without any enabling documents.
“The lack of uniformity is further causing chaos among the people leading to great anxiety,” Balaji said.
He also said forms for appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) are being provided in English and this “exclusionary exercise” is making it difficult for party workers to even fill the forms.
The EC has claimed this to be a serious and well-planned exercise but the unavailability of forms in Hindi raises questions about such claims, he said.
“The concern that was being raised by the ten opposition parties of I.N.D.I.A bloc during the meeting at your office about the glaring inconsistencies about the confusion and pandemonium is being corroborated by ground reports with ongoing Bihar SIR exercise,” Balaji, who attended the meeting along with CPI(ML)L General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said in the letter.
