Lucknow: Cricketer Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders and Samajwadi Party (SP) Lok Sabha member Priya Saroj are soon set to tie the nuptial knot.
Toofani Saroj, Priya’s father and the SP MLA from Kerakat seat in the Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday confirmed the news doing the rounds on social media since Friday that Priya and Rinku would be marrying soon.
However, he clarified that there had been no ‘sagai’ (engagement) as was being claimed in the media.
‘’We have spoken to Rinku Singh’s father ... our children have expressed their desire to marry and have sought our permission ... there is no problem from our side ... initial talks have been made in this regard,’’ Toofani Saroj told reporters in Jaunpur.
He said that the date and venue of the marriage would be decided after consultation with Rinku Singh’s family. ‘
’Rinku Singh is currently busy with preparations for T20 matches and Priya will be busy in the forthcoming Budget Session of the Parliament,’’ he added.
Saroj went on to say that the ritual of ‘sagai’ had not been completed. ‘’There is no sagai...everything will be done after February 13 when the LS session comes to an end,’’ he said.
He said that Priya, who is an MP from the Machli Shahar LS constituency, and Rinku Singh had known each other for some time.
‘’They had decided that they would marry only with the permission of their parents,’’ Saroj added.
