Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel, including an officer, were killed after militants attacked a paramilitary force party at Achabal in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday.

Sources said militants opened fire on a CRPF party deployed on law and order duty at Achabal Chowk in Anantnag, 65 kms from Srinagar, resulting in injuries to three personnel and a civilian.

All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where assistant sub-inspector ML Meena succumbed. The other two injured jawans were referred to army’s 92-base hospital in Srinagar. However, one of them identified as Sandeep Singh Yadav succumbed on the way.

Reports said soon after the attack the area was cordoned off and a hunt was launched to nab the assailants.
