As a students’ agitation demanding the resignation of Kerala Law Academy Law College principal P Lakshmi Nair entered its 27th day, the deadlock around the private institution has led to friction between the ruling CPM and its key ally in the Left coalition, the CPI.
On Monday, CPI mouthpiece Janayugam carried two opinion pieces on its edit page, severely critical of the CPM’s stand on the law college crisis and specifically targeting Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s statement that the government would not initiate efforts to reclaim what was alleged as land unduly possessed by people who run the institution.
CPI leaders have criticised the CPM’s ‘soft stand’ on the students’ allegations of Lakshmi’s abusive behaviour and maladministration.
The CPM cautioned CPI against falling in line with what it called a BJP-led political
conspiracy against the Left government.
