New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party’s student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has swept the Delhi University Student Union elections, winning the posts of President, Secretary, and Joint Secretary, while the Congress student body National Students Union of India managed to win the position of the Vice President.
ABVP’s Aryan Maan, Kunal Chaudhary and Deepika Jha won the positions of President, Secretary and Joint Secretary respectively, while NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla is the new Vice President of the students union.
While there are approximately 7 lakh students in the varsity, about 2.75 lakh (or 39.4%) students cast their votes across 52 centres and 195 booths. Over 700 EVMs were used and students from 50 colleges voted. Maan secured his victory by a margin of 16,196 votes.
Union home minister Amit Shah applauded the student leaders, calling the wins a “resounding victory”. “This victory is a reflection of the unwavering faith of the youth in the ‘Nation First’ ideology. This triumph will further accelerate the journey of transforming the council's student power into national power,” he said.
