On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to turn Delhi the “best capital in the world” even as AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the slew of projects being inaugurated by the PM ahead of the polls is a joint venture between the Centre and the state.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating a 13-km section of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System, Modi accused the AAP of derailing Delhi’s development for the past 10 years.

“I am confident that lotus (BJP’s symbol) will bloom in Delhi. Only the BJP can give Delhi the status of the best capital city in the world. This is the best time to win the hearts of the people and remove this ‘AAP-da’ from Delhi,” Modi said, repeating the ‘disaster’ jibe to attack the AAP.

Alleging that the Kejriwal-led party lacked any vision, the PM claimed most of the development happening in Delhi was being done by the Centre.

Citing media accounts of CAG reports on the expenditure incurred in the upkeep of CM’s residence, Modi again trained his guns on Kejriwal for “building a ‘sheesh-mahal’”.

The BJP has alleged that Kejriwal during his tenure as CM spent crores of rupees on the renovation of his official residence which was turned into a “7-star luxury resort”.

Responding to the allegations, Kejriwal questioned the BJP’s track record in fulfilling its past promises.

“The promise made by the PM in Delhi in 2020 to make changes in the law to help people in villages on land issue; the people of Delhi Dehat are still waiting for that to be fulfilled,” Kejriwal said.

The AAP convenor claimed that the projects being launched by the PM have been jointly undertaken by the Delhi govt and the Centre.

“They sent our top leadership to jail. But the atrocities that happened against us, we didn’t make that an issue. Otherwise these projects would not have been inaugurated,” Kejriwal said.

The term of the Delhi Assembly ends in February 2025.
