New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Wednesday granted interim bail of seven days to former JNU student leader Umar Khalid in the Delhi riots larger conspiracy case for the marriage ceremony of his cousin.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai of Delhi's Karkardooma court allowed the plea for the bail to the applicant, who has been in judicial custody in connection with a larger conspiracy case related to the 2020 North East Delhi Violence. 

The court fixed the interim bail period from December 28 to January 3.

It directed him not to use social media during his release and not meet any person other than the family members, relatives and friends.

The Delhi High Court has been examining the regular bail applications of Khalid.

Delhi police had arrested Khalid in September 2020 and charged him with criminal conspiracy, rioting, unlawful assembly as well as several sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). He has been in jail since then.
