The Internet never forgets. As Cars24 founder Vikram Chopra found out to his dismay. This was right after he hopped on to the viral job post bandwagon (after Zomato's CEO Deepinder Goyal) by tweeting job vacancies for engineers at his company.
The job post read, "Still can't speak Kannada after years in Bengaluru? It's Ok. Aa jao Dilli. We are looking for kickass engineers who wish to stay close to home." Chopra added his own caption to the post, saying, "We are not saying Delhi NCR is better. Only that it really is. If you wish to come back, write to me at vikram@cars24.com with the subject - Delhi meri jaan."
One netizens snapped back, "Meri Jaan feels attacked now," attaching an air quality snapshot of the Delhi NCR region under Category 'Severe'. Others echoed the sentiment, adding comments like, "Dilli meri gas chamber," "Delhi meri jaan (leh rhi h)" and "Close to home X; Close to severe AQI ✓".
Another comment reminded Chopra of his 2009 anti-Delhi tweet — "The most difficult thing in Delhi is to deal with its people" — adding "You should, probably, delete this."
Other netizens commented on all the other reasons — from the cold wave in North India to comparing 'cheaper' Bengaluru to 'expensive' Gurgaon, where Cars24 is headquartered. "Gurgaon is more expensive than Bangalore. Best would have been Noida. Cheapest of the lot with less cost of living so lower salaries. Anyways an increase of 1 lac rupees in gross gives you just 5200 per month extra. That gets spent in a weekend in cyberhub," read the tweet.
So far there hasn't been caustic comments from Bengalureans who will probably bless the day when some people decide to leave the city.
