New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday accused the Congress of trusting US President Donald Trump and not External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor and said that is why it is sitting in the Opposition and will remain there for 20 more years.
His comments came as the Opposition MPs continuously raised the issue of Trump declaring the ceasefire between India and Pakistan and repeatedly claiming credit for it. When Jaishankar rebutted it and said Modi and Trump did not have any conversation on ceasefire, the Congress MPs continued to oppose him.
Intervening the debate on Operation Sindoor, Shah said the opposition "do not have faith in the minister", who has has taken oath as a member of the Indian government.
"They trust some other country. I know the importance of foreign (opinion) in their party, but it does not mean that they should impose this view on Parliament," he said.
Jaishankar is responsible for what he is saying, the Home Minister said.
Shah also urged Speaker Om Brila to ask the Opposition to cease from interrupting Jaishankar while speaking and warned that it would be otherwise difficult for the ruling NDA to stop its MPs from doing the same while Opposition MPs are making their speeches.
During the debate, Jaishankar also made it clear that at no stage in any conversation with the US was there any linkage of trade with Operation Sindoor. He said the request for ceasefire came from the Pakistani side through the DGMO channel.
