The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided that a four-year under-graduate programme, which has been facing stiff opposition from a section of students and teachers in Delhi University since it was introduced last year, should be reviewed.

The decision was taken at a full commission meeting held here on Friday, official sources told Deccan Herald.

It, however, was not immediately known if the UGC itself will review the programme or a standing committee, set up by it to monitor the progress of the four-year under-graduate course rolled out last year at the varsity.

This comes two days after Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Zubin Irani made it clear that she would not pressurise Delhi University to roll back the programme as it was an autonomous institution.

“Time-and-again, I have reiterated this issue that the DU is an autonomous institution, hence for me to transgress into their territory would not be advisable,” she told reporters.
