New Delhi: Two BJP leaders – Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma and Union Minister Krishan Pal Gujar – have renamed their official residences on Tughlak Lane in Lutyens' Delhi to Swami Vivekananda Marg.

Dinesh Sharma, who held a housewarming ceremony for his new residence, shared a photo on X showing the new nameplate, which read "Swami Vivekananda Marg" at the entrance.

"Today, along with my family, I performed a housewarming ceremony and formally moved into my new residence on Swami Vivekananda Marg (Tughlak Lane) in New Delhi," Dinesh Sharma wrote on X.

However, other residences on the same road still bear the nameplate "Tughlak Lane."

Several BJP leaders have been demanding changing of names of places, roads, and institutions as part of the ruling saffron party's broader ideological agenda to shed the colonial legacies to reflect India’s indigenous heritage.

In 2015, Aurangazeb Road in New Delhi was renamed Abdul Kalam Road to honour former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam following his death. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) approved the change in August that year.

Last month, BJP's Mustafabad MLA Mohan Bisht proposed renaming the northeast Delhi constituency, which has a significant minority community population, to "Shiv Vihar" or "Shiv Puri".
