Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president M Karunanidhi on Monday said he and his party would like to see a secular government at the Centre after the Parliamentary elections.
“A secular party should be India’s ruling party. Myself and the DMK party would like to have a secular government at the Centre after the elections,” Karunanidhi said. He said the DMK would play a role in any secular front that is formed in a democratic way.
On reports of a possible tie-up with Left parties, Karunanidhi said the two communist parties – the CPI and CPM – had not approached his party for an alliance. He declined to comment on whether he will support Narendra Modi for the prime minister’s post and said he would not respond to “individuals”.
