Students from Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) sealed the fate of the candidates in fray for the post of president and other office bearers in their respective panels of the two varsities’ students union.

Polling was largely peaceful both in DU and JNU amid tight security arrangements by the Delhi police. While the counting of votes began soon after the polls concluded, the results of the DU poll is expected on Saturday and JNU results will be out on Monday. Though an official announcement of the voter turnout in DU polls was yet to be made till the time this report was filed, the university witnessed a low turnout when compared with last year.

Technical glitches in electronic voting machines (EVMs) at some of the polling booths also marred DU polls. “If one pressed the button for number 5, the vote went to number 1 in the list of candidates,” Rishabh Tyagi, a voter, said while referring to an EVM installed at the Aurobindo College. However, the turnout at  JNU remained higher than that of last year. “The voter turnout was 60%,” JNU chief election commissioner (CEC) Ishita Manna told DH.
