Edappadi Palaniswami, M K Stalin, Kamal Haasan file nomination papers for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Opposition Leader M K Stalin, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan, and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) General Secretary T T V Dhinakaran are some of the prominent faces who filed their nomination papers to contest the April 6 Assembly polls.

Palaniswami filed his nomination papers from Edappadi, from where he is contesting for the seventh time, Stalin submitted the election documents in Kolathur, his Assembly constituency since 2011. Dhinakaran, who is R K Nagar MLA, filed his nomination from Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district, while Kamal Haasan is contesting from Coimbatore (South) constituency.

Stalin held a roadshow after filing his nomination papers, while Palaniswami walked more than 100 meters to reach the designation office to submit the papers. A number of ministers, including C Ve Shanmugham, P Thangamani, Sellur K Raju, R B Udhayakumar, O S Manian, and K P Anbazhagan, also filed their nomination papers on Monday.

According to an affidavit filed by Palaniswami, the value of movable assets owned by him witnessed a slump from Rs 3.14 crore in 2016 to Rs 2.01 crore in 2021. The value of immovable assets stood at Rs 4.68 crore in 2021 against Rs 4.66 crore in 2016.

However, the movable assets owned by deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam, who filed nomination papers on Friday, increased manifold from Rs 55 lakh in 2016 to Rs 5.19 crore in 2021. Also, the immovable assets which stood at Rs 98 lakh in 2016 increased to Rs 2.64 crore in 2021. His liability increased to 2.72 crore in 2021 from Rs 25 lakh in 2016.

Stalin disclosed that his movable properties are worth Rs 4.94 crore, and immovable properties worth Rs 1.17 crore. He is poorer than his son Udhayanidhi who has disclosed assets worth Rs 28.82 crore.
