Bengaluru, DHNS: An unidentified man impersonated a Lokayukta police officer and threatened several state government officials, the police said on Wednesday.
The Vidhana Soudha police have registered a case under BNS sections 204 (impersonating a public servant), 308 (extortion), and 319 (cheating by personation).
According to the FIR, based on a complaint by Lokayukta DySP Basavaraj R Magadam, the impersonator called government officials, claiming to be a Lokayukta officer and threatening them with Disproportionate Assets (DA) cases. The imposter also allegedly demanded money.
A check on Truecaller showed the caller’s number saved as ‘Lokayukta Dy SP’.
A preliminary investigation and location tracking revealed that the calls originated from Shirol, a suburb of Mumbai. Further investigation is underway.
