Nearly a year ago, BJP leader Shanta Kumar wrote an open letter to party chief Amit Shah saying that the Vyapam scam and Lalitgate “made all of us bow our heads in shame”.

The Kangra MP has now written a letter again, but this time to the Prime Minister and, interestingly, has effusive words for Narendra Modi. Kumar wants PM Modi to come up with a national policy to curb burgeoning population which, the senior MP feels, is leading to unemployment.

"It seems to me that the history wants you to do this difficult but fundamental work of national importance. I humbly urge you to take an initiative to call a meeting of all political parties to evolve a consensus over national population policy," the former Himachal Pradesh chief minister wrote to Modi.

Kumar is not known to have kind words for the Modi-Shah dispensation and had openly attacked them in the company of party patriarch L K Advani and others.
