The FSSAI had mandated the display of ‘Food Safety Connect’ App QR code at food courts.

In a recent move, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India's (FSSAI) has introduced a QR code scanning system that facilitates people to file grievances about the unhygienic kitchen condition and poor quality food in hotels and restaurants.

This in effect would put and end to the years long battle between the customers and the hotels as well as the restaurants about quality food cooked under hygienic condition.

As per the latest FSSAI rule, the billing counters and dine-in sections of the eatery have been instructed to display the QR code integrated with the "Food Safety Connect" mobile app.

Here is all you need to know as to how the app works.

Step 1: Download the "Food Safety Connect" mobile app from Google Play Store or Click The Food Safety Connect Portal is available at https://foscos.fssai.gov.in/consumergrievance the external link to direct towards the portal.

Step 2: Under consumer there is an option of “Register”, click on it.

Step 3: Enter mobile number, an OTP will be sent to mobile, enter all the details and click on “Submit” and then login through your mobile number.

Step 4: Then login to your account.

Step 5: On the left panel, navigate to “Register New Complaint”.

Step 6: Select category from the dropdown and based on the category continue to fill all the mandatory complaint details.

Step 7: Selection of Food Business Operator - please select Food Business Operator if available in the dropdown list, if not then select “Other FBO”.

Step 8: After entering all the details correctly, click on “Submit” button at the bottom of the page.

Step 9: A ticket number will be generated against the complaint through which consumer can track the complaint.

The process

After the grievance submission, the complaint will be undertaken by the relevant regional FSSAI officials.

Customers are less likely to get awareness about the installation of grievance system built in the FSSAI website or the launch of its own mobile app.

Hence the strategy to place QR code in checkout zone and dining tables.
