As the 13-day-long winter session of Maharashtra legislature ended, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched a major offensive against the Congress and NCP, describing them as a “confused opposition”.
Asserting that his government would streamline and decentralise the administration, Fadnavis said corruption would not be tolerated. He dismissed the charge that the “government is being run from Nagpur”, a reference to the RSS. “When Vilasrao Deshmukh was chief minister, it used to run from Latur, when Ashok Chavan was chief minister it used to run from Nanded. The present chief minister (himself) is from Nagpur,” he clarified.
Earlier in the day, Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil of the Congress and his counterpart in the Council Dhananjay Munde of NCP, came down heavily on the BJP-Shiv Sena government for ignoring the issue of providing reservation to Muslims and not helping farmers in time of crisis.
He defended the government. “In the last 5 years, when the Democratic Front government
was in power, it extended a total relief of Rs 8,000 crore (to farmers). However, in this session itself, we have given relief of Rs 7,000 crore. It is not a matter of joy, but we have taken several long-term measures,” he said.
