Thiruvananthapuram: Funeral of a Kerala youth killed in mob lynching at Mangaluru was performed at his native place Parappur in Malappuram on Wednesday.
Sources said that Ashraf, 36, who came under attack allegedly for raising pro-Pakistan slogans, did not have any shady past. He left behind his father, mother and four siblings.
The local people also formed an action council and demanded a detailed probe.
His brother Abdul Jabbar told the media that Ashraf was having some mental illness and used to take treatment. He was involved in casual jobs like scrap picking and was with the family till recently. He left home a few days ago, and he had gone to Mangaluru earlier as well.
Ashraf's family stayed at Pulpally in Wayanad for some time after their house at Malappuram was attached by a bank for loan default.
Local panchayat ward member Nazar Parappur said that an action council was formed to press the demand for a detailed probe into his killing.
The Kerala police's special branch was also verifying the background of Ashraf.
