Playback singer Udit Narayan has come under criticism after an old video of him kissing female fans is making rounds online now.
The video shows the singer performing at a concert and his fans going near the stage, eager to take a selfie with him. In the first clip, a woman while clicking the picture gives a peck on the singer's cheek, after which he can be seen kissing the fan on her lips.
The 69-year-old singer is facing massive backlash after the video of the same was circulated.
In a chat with Hindustan Times, Udit Narayan expressed that fans are 'deewane' and that there could be an "ulterior motive" behind making these video clips popular now.
Addressing the controversy, he said, "Fans itne deewane hote hain na. Hum log aise nahi hain, hum decent log hain. Some people encourage this and show their love through this. Udaake kya karna hai ab iss cheez ko? (Fans are 'deewane'. We are not like that, we are decent people), as reported by HT.
Further he said, with so many people in the crowd, and bodyguards present too, fans want to meet them by 'extending their hands for handshake, while some kiss the hands'.
"Yeh sab deewangi hoti hai. Uspe itna dhyaan nahi dena chahiye (This is all madness. One should not pay so much attention to it)," he added.
Speculating there could be an ulterior motive behind this, Narayan said, "My family's image is such that people want controversy to happen."
Further he talked about fans' madness that is present while he sings on stage. "Fans love me, I think let them be happy," he said.
"Otherwise, we are not the type of people. We also have to make them happy," he said, as reported by the publication.
Udit Narayan then justified that his image hasn't been such, and how when he interacts with his fans, he "folds his hand and bows down."
Many netizens, however, did not seem content after his videos of kissing fans went viral.
