Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, suffering from Covid-19, has been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata on Tuesday after his condition suddenly deteriorated.
According to doctors attending to Bhattacharjee, who was undergoing treatment at home, his condition started to deteriorate late on Monday night. They said that his oxygen saturation level went down to 80 per cent.
Seeing that the former Chief Minister’s condition may become critical, the doctors advised hospitalisation. The fact that the CPI(M) stalwart suffers from Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has become another cause of concern for doctors.
Bhattacharjee was unable to walk properly since Monday and required constant oxygen support through Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP).
Recently, Bhattacharjee and his wife Meera tested positive for Covid-19. However,’ his wife has recovered and was discharged from hospital on Monday.
Earlier too, doctors had advised Bhattacharjee to get hospitalised. He, however, had refused.
