A fresh spell is also expected between September 18 and 21 in the North-West region including Delhi, according to Indian Meteorological Department Chief, Ajit Tyagi. The withdrawal of monsoon from the North-West may happen only between September 24 and October 2, just days before the start of the CWG. The mega sporting event would be held between October 3 and 14.

Rains may also occur in Delhi in the first week of October, too, though chances are slim.
The showers till October first week will pose a big challenge to Delhi government and other agencies, who are rushing to put things in order for the Games.

The rains will complicate the work to finish the fly-overs, roads and metro-lines before the Games start. According to weathermen, the rains at the fag end of the season is the result of a phenomenon known as La Nina that originates in the Pacific, but brings showers for India. La Nina events are associated with normal and above normal monsoon.
Between 1901 and 2009, there were 21 La Nina years. It is considered to be a boon for agriculture in most parts of the country.
