Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday sent a sari to the mother of his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, Hiraba, reciprocating a friendly gesture that Modi made last month when he gifted a shawl to Sharif's mother.

“Nawaz Sharifji has sent a wonderful white Sari for my mother. I am really grateful to him and will send it to my mother very soon,” Modi tweeted from his personal handle @narendramodi.

Hiraba, who stays with Modi’s younger brother Pankaj in Gandhinagar, showed to the media a green box that contained the gift, marked with Pakistan's emblem and “Mother of the Prime Minister of India” written on it.

She opened the box and showed the message written inside - “With the compliments of Prime Minister of Pakistan.” She did not speak to the media but expressed her gratitude by folding hands, said a PTI report.

After the swearing-in ceremony and talks last month, Modi had given a gift-wrapped package to Sharif’s mother Shamim Akhtar.

Sharif's daughter Maryam later tweeted, “Thank you very much PM @narendramodi for the beautiful shawl for my grandmother. My father personally delivered it to her.” She also posted a picture of the shawl on the micro-blogging website.

Apart from the shawl, Modi also gifted Sharif a collection of poems by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Modi’s tweet, along with a photograph of his mother, is doing the rounds on the site.
