While a day long mass hunger strike was observed in Karimangar district, mass feeding was organised on rail tracks in Medak district.
In Nalgonda a wall was constructed on the border with Guntur district while a rally of motorcycles was taken out in Siddipet in Medak district. In Rangareddy district, protesting lawyers locked up the local court’s doors and enforced a bandh while in Choutuppal in Nalgonda district, protesters built a grave for those opposing Telangana state.
Padayatras were taken out and human chains formed in Nizamabad district. In Jakanpalli village, women celebrated Bathukamma festival which involves dancing and feasting as a show of support for Telangana.
In Dubbaka town, people from Andhra region who have settled there took out a rally in support of Telangana state.
However, tension prevailed in Madgulapalli village in Nalgonda district as police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse unruly protesters. In Manthani town in Karimnagar district, a standoff between protesters and police led to tension which was diffused with the use of force.
Students across various universities in Telangana continued their hunger strike on Wednesday while TDP MLA Seetakka continued her hunger strike in Warangal for the fourth day.
Meanwhile, additional director general of police A K Khan told mediapersons here that over 900 persons were arrested during the bandh. Even as the Osmania University students Joint Action Committee announced its decision to go ahead with the Telangana Vidyarthi Mahagarjana on January 3 in which half a million students from across the region are expected to participate, the police which had earlier refused permission to the meeting said it was being reconsidered.
The AP State Road Transport Corporation cancelled 9,000 buses including some inter-state buses especially to Maharashtra and Karnataka on Wednesday while major trains passing through Telangana were re-scheduled.
About 165 trains were affected, according to South Central Railways here. The services, however, resumed later in the night.
