Delhi’s “most-wanted” gangster Neeraj Bawana was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday following a brief exchange of gunfire with a police team in west Delhi.
His accomplice Rashid was also arrested with him.
Billed by the police as the most dreaded extortionist in Delhi over the past decade, 27-year-old Bawana did not spare even legislators when it came to demanding protection money.
He has over 40 criminal cases against him, and was recently booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). He had earlier been jailed briefly in an extortion case, but jumped parole in 2013 to take over the reins of Delhi’s organised crime from his friend-turned-foe Neetu Dabodia, who was shot dead in an encounter with the police.
