Punjab police on Monday suspended two of their personnel for ill-treating and beating up a middle-aged woman who complained of sexual harassment in Taran Taran district.

The cops slapped and hit the woman on the head, while also thrashing her with the truncheon. The victim’s father was also beaten up.

The incident surfaced as it was caught on camera.

Sources said the father-daughter duo was returning from a wedding on Sunday when a truck driver sexually harassed her on the road. The matter was brought to the police deployed nearby, who, according to the victim, sided with the truck driver and beat them up.

Police have order for an enquiry over the incident.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday asked DGP Sumedh Singh Saini to take strict action against the errant police personnel.

Sukhbir Singh Badal said it was imperative for police to conduct themselves in a professional and disciplined manner, while reiterating strict action against any misbehaviour towards women.

Suspending the cops, DGP Saini handed the enquiry to an Superintendent of Police-ranked officer and asked for a report within a week.

The deputy chief minister promised action against those found guilty.
