Faced with complaints of reckless driving by young students, the Goa Education Department on Friday banned students from riding two-wheelers to the school campus.

An order to that effect issued by Education Director Santosh Amonkar also urges heads of educational institutions to address the issue at meetings of Parents Teachers Associations and ensure that students do not ride two-wheelers to schools henceforth.

"It is informed that many students are seen using two-wheelers and riding in a reckless manner violating traffic rules," the order issued by the state Education Director said.

"It is once again enjoined upon all heads of institutions to address this issue in PTA meetings and ensure that no students will drive two-wheelers to the schools," Amonkar also said in his order.

Schools in Goa are still not fully functional on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, with only Class X and Class XII students allowed to attend classes in person.
