Expressing their reservations about the NDA regime’s tough economic measures, as reflected in the steep hike in rail fares, RSS-backed organisations have cautioned the government against pushing the previous Congress-led UPA’s agenda.
They advised the government to instead follow pro-people measures.
Representatives of organisations such as Swadeshi Jagaran Manch, Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh and Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, during their meeting with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley a couple of days ago, had voiced their concern saying if the government took decisions without responding to the common man’s problems, it would prove counter-productive.
Building highways and launching bullet trains would not serve the purpose as the government should focus on poverty alleviation, they reportedly said.
The NDA government had clarified that it merely gave a go-ahead to the decision of hiking rail fares and freight rates that was taken by the Manmohan Singh government.
This prompted the representatives to exhort the new government to steer clear of taking the previous regime’s path and adopt a pro-people approach that will be evident in the coming days.
They also warned that they “would back the government only on its pro-people decisions. If the government deviates from people-centric governance, then our organisations will act as a corrective force”.
Reminding the NDA regime that people had voted them to power with great hopes, the leaders said if the government fails to fulfil people’s aspirations, it would meet the same fate as that of the Aam Aadmi Party.
However, Jaitley pointed out that in the current economic scenario, tough decisions were inevitable for a better future.
