As Parliament begins its Monsoon session on Monday, the government has lined up nearly 15 legislations for business, including the key one on Goods and Services Tax.

Out of the 15 “priority legislations” piloted by 10 ministries, the government intends to push through substantial legislative requests of the finance ministry that goes beyond the GST and debt recovery, an NDA floor manager said.

The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry lined up 14 bills in B1 and B2 categories since they need Cabinet and other administrative approvals.

After parleys with senior Congress leaders, the government appeared confident that it would reach a common understanding with the Opposition to secure legislative sanction on Constitution amendment bill facilitating the GST within the 20 sittings of the Monsoon session.
