Lucknow: Muslim clerics have slammed Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for not keeping ‘Roza’ (fasting during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan) and taking an energy drink during the India-Australia semifinal match in Dubai in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

Shami was asked to seek forgiveness from ‘Allah’ (the Almighty) for his ‘sin’.

‘’Keeping roza is a sacred duty in Islam... not keeping roza deliberately is the biggest sin,’’ senior Muslim cleric and All India Muslim Jamat national president Maualana Shahabuddin Rizvi said on Thursday.

‘’Shami is guilty in the eyes of shariat (Islamic Law) … he must seek forgiveness of Allah for his sin,’’ Rizvi said.

Rizvi’s statement came after a picture showing Shami consuming an energy drink during the match went viral on social media.

Shami was trolled on social media by some after the picture surfaced. While many users found nothing wrong in drinking an energy drink in the hot Dubai weather, some others said that it was wrong.

The saints of Ayodhya, however, praised Shami for keeping the nation first. ‘’Nation gets priority over everything, even religion,’’ said an Ayodhya based seer.

Shami delivered a stellar performance in the semifinal claiming three wickets for 48 runs in his ten overs.
